Accounting firms have gained the reputation of overworking their professionals under the pretext of cramming a whole year’s worth of work into four months. The rationale is, “Let’s push now and we can rest later.”
Unfortunately, oftentimes, the result is exhausted, stressed and overworked employees with little life-work balance.

In recent years, this mindset has been challenged at BMSS Advisors & CPAs.

We want good talent but don't want to force a non-existent life-work balance for almost half of the year. While we can’t completely break away from a traditional “busy” season, there are ways we can create positive changes to help alleviate the stress.

•  Giving employees the flexibility to work from home more often has given professionals the opportunity to work the hours that best suit them and their life outside of the job.
•  Offering perks to make working so many hours more acceptable. Free meals, massages, snacks, and mini-break parties on top of our already great benefits are ways accounting firms are trying to keep up morale.
•  Limiting overtime hours to a reasonable amount and paying a premium for those extra hours when they must occur.

While some may see public accounting's traditional tax season as a deterrent, BMSS is helping to alleviate the stress by taking care of its employees in more ways than one would see in a traditional office setting.
